Events Notice - Diary in Detail

Tuesday, 24 February 2015 - Monthly Meeting Pastel Demo - with Penny Steynor

Penny Steynor was born in Staffordshire, England and had always had a love for painting and drawing. In 1980 she took her first watercolour painting lessons with Eric Wale in Cape Town. This had been a life long dream and she jumped at the chance to follow her dream. Once on the path to a new and exciting adventure, she moved on to painting every week with some like-minded artist friends and has become a most accomplished artist. She still paints with this group of friends after 33 years.

She joined the South African Society of Artists more than 30 years ago and served on the committee. She won a number of prizes for paintings in watercolours & pastels.  Her achievements also include Best Watercolour in two annual exhibitions (2008 and 2011) and best Pastel in 2011.

In 2011 she was awarded a Fellowship of the South African Society of Artists, which is a huge honour,  as well as a medal from the S A National Association for the visual Arts.

She is a valued member of the Constantiaberg Art Society and the Western Cape Watercolour group and  has won many awards and prizes for paintings.

She has even studied marble sculpture in Pietrasanta, Italy and enjoys exploring and trying her hand in white marble sculpture.

Penny teaches Watercolour from her studio at home, and paints nearly every day, dabbling in Oils, Pastels, & Acrylics, along with her Watercolour painting. Her reputation in the art world is of an exceptional standard and her work adorns many homes, both local and abroad.

Penny has given many demonstrations and workshops for several art societies. We are most fortunate that Penny will be sharing her insight and guidance in the use of Pastel in this demo of a Kalahari landscape.
