September Meeting - Talk by Yvonne Ankerman and Art Challenge

New Chairman Linda Gotlieb introduced the new Committee to the members present. She then introduced the speaker, CAS member Yvonne Ankerman.

Yvonne gave us a fascinating talk and slide show about her latest working trip on a small passenger ship touring Antarctica and South America.

Starting off with the tours to the Antarctic, she told us about all her duties on board
and how
she had to learn to operate a Zodiac inflatable motor craft.

Between taking passengers on outings
and working at reception, Yvonne also
gave art classes and talks. If she wanted any time to herself she had to miss dinner!

She showed us photos of the penguins and other birds found in the Antarctic and the various seal species. She also demonstrated all the clothing she had to
put on before going outside.

Yvonne then spent a further 5 weeks as “Artist in Residence” on a voyage up the West Coast of South America, through the Panama Canal and ending in the Caribbean. From
the San Rafael Glacier to Colombia, she showed us historical churches, colourful crafts and awe-inspiring scenery.

She brought her sketch books along to show us. Thanks for a very entertaining evening Yvonne!

The theme for this month's challenge was "New Life". There were only three works but they are lovely!

Elizabeth Lamprecht
Angela Stannard

Next month's challenge is "Let's Move!"
